Created by an independently owned, woman-run company in Madrid, Spain, Naturtint has been the leader in scientifically innovative hair color and care for over 25 years. Naturtint’s botanical-inspired formulas contain only the highest quality ingredients and are designed to deliver and maintain radiant color and shine! All Naturtint products are cruelty-free and vegan, so you can be confident that you are choosing a better option for your hair and the planet!
Naturtint uses the Global ISO standard 16128 which defines naturally-derived as a plant or mineral derived material and water which have undergone limited processing. The Naturtint naturally-derived percentage varies between products and ranges from 92% to 99%.
With a commitment to scientific innovation and cleaner beauty, Naturtint strives to provide the most natural formulas possible without sacrificing the quality of your results. Naturtint permanent hair color is 92% naturally-derived which means there are still some chemicals in the formula. Like other permanent dyes, it contains ingredients that could cause allergic reactions for certain individuals. Please perform a skin sensitivity test 48 hours before coloring to decide if it is right for you.
Any cosmetic can trigger an allergic reaction, even if you’ve used it frequently before. The sensitivity test can help you determine if you’re sensitive to Naturtint hair color. Like other permanent hair color products, Naturtint permanent color contains ingredients that could cause allergic reactions for certain individuals. Perform a sensitivity test 48 hours before treatment to decide if it’s right for you. If you do have an allergic reaction to the sensitivity test, do not use the product, and please consult a medical professional about your allergy symptoms.
You can go as dark as you like, but permanent hair color can only lighten by up to two shades. Most people find that staying within two shades of their natural hair color suits their skin tone well. If you are having trouble deciding on a color, a Naturtint color specialist can help.
All Naturtint permanent hair colors are mixable. To measure and mix colors, we suggest that you use a plastic or glass container that measures in milliliters. Most importantly, always measure and use equal portions of colorant and developer to maintain the manufacturer’s recommended 1:1 ratio. Digital scales are the most accurate way to measure. If you approximate the proportions, the results may not be what you expect.
Everyone will have their own individual results depending on their starting color, hair condition, and texture. Your hair is unique to you and most likely won’t come out exactly like the picture on the box. Always perform a strand test prior to coloring.
One kit of Naturtint permanent hair color typically contains enough product to color shoulder-length hair. If your hair is longer than that, you may want to buy two or more kits.
Naturtint permanent hair color can be applied over most other permanent hair colors except for metallic containing progressive dyes. For best results, wait 2–3 weeks between permanent coloring treatments. Before applying Naturtint, perform a strand test to make sure you like your new color.
Naturtint permanent hair color lasts depending on your hair’s condition and how you care for it. Typically, you will see normal fading after 3–4 weeks. If you used a red color, it might fade sooner than other colors. Those with dry or porous hair might notice color fading prematurely. To delay color fading, try to keep your hair well-conditioned, wash with a color-safe, pH-balanced shampoo & conditioner, and rinse your hair with lukewarm water rather than hot.
Apply Naturtint hair color to dry unwashed hair that is free of styling products. We recommend washing your hair and waiting 24–48 hours before applying to allow your hair’s pH and natural oils to normalize prior to coloring.
Yes! Coarse hair typically needs more time to process than fine hair. Dry or damaged ends can sometimes absorb much darker than the new growth at the top of the hair which means that the ends of the hair typically need less time than the roots of the hair. A strand test should help you determine your perfect color processing time.
Once mixed, the colorant and developer are activated and will only last for a little over an hour before the formula will no longer color your hair. Any leftover mixture should be discarded. Some save their unmixed portions, but should note that when the colorant bottle is opened, it is exposed to oxygen, which starts to break down the formula’s effectiveness. The longer you wait to use it, the more you increase the chance of it not giving you great results. Therefore, we recommend that you use your opened product as soon as possible.
If you are currently using a Naturtint Natural tone which does not contain added red pigment, these unwanted warm hues or brassiness could be caused by processing less than 40 minutes when lightening hair, choosing a hair color more than 2 shades lighter than your current hair color, or fading hair color in dry or porous hair.
If you are currently using a Naturtint Golden or Red tone, you might try mixing with a corresponding Natural tone or just switch over to using a Natural tone by itself.
To counteract warm hues, we typically recommend mixing your Natural tone with an Ash tone which will help to cool your color. When combatting brass, it is better to go a little darker or stay at the same level, lightening your color will only emphasize the unwanted hues.
If you would like advice on which colors to mix to achieve your desired results, please contact us and one of our color specialists will be happy to assist!
For high percentage or stubborn gray, our suggestion to achieve the best coverage is to choose a Natural tone 1N through 8N and leave the solution on for a full 40 minutes. If you prefer Golden, Red, Copper, or Mahogany tones you should mix it with a corresponding Natural tone for the most even and natural looking coverage (i.e. 5M and 5N).
If you are already following the guidance above, and still having trouble with gray coverage, one of our color specialists would be happy to assist you in getting those stubborn grays covered!
Since Naturtint is a permanent coloring product, make sure your application area can be easily covered and cleaned. Protect surfaces by covering them with a towel or old sheet. Keep a damp cloth nearby to wipe up any drips. If some of the color gets onto a hard floor surface (tile, quartz, marble, ceramic, etc.), you can use a slightly abrasive product with bleach to assist in clean up.
If your skin is prone to staining, place a little bit of Vaseline around your hairline before coloring. Afterward, wipe it off with a damp cloth or wash with soap and water.
NOTE: Permanent color will stain soft surfaces like carpets, cloth, or wood! Use extra caution to apply your color treatment in a safe and appropriately protected area.
Yes, the Naturtint Root Retouch is a PPD-free permanent hair color formula that will help you blend in your roots between full permanent hair color applications. It is also great if you are not using permanent hair color currently, but need to conceal a few unwanted grays. Each kit comes with a brush and small container for easy mixing and application.
Yes, you certainly can, but we recommend performing a color strand test before applying to make sure it is a good match for blending those roots!
To achieve a natural blend with your existing color, avoid retouching roots with a shade that is darker than your regular Naturtint Permanent Hair Color. One Root Retouch kit is typically only enough to touch up your beginning to show roots and stubborn grays.
Currently there are four colors which match most of the Naturtint shades:
The Root Retouch Dark Brown is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 2N or 3N permanent colors.
The Root Retouch Light Brown is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 4N, 4G, 5N, 5G or 5.7.
The Root Retouch Dark Blonde is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 6N, 6G, 6.7, 7N or 7G.
The Root Retouch Light Blonde is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 8N, 8G, 9N or 10N.
Root Retouch permanent colors offer up to 100% gray coverage from the very first application. If your gray is particularly stubborn and resistant to color, you may need to allow the color to develop for 20 minutes in order to achieve the best coverage.
The color takes just 10 minutes to develop, or 20 minutes if your gray is stubborn!
Formulated to be color safe, Naturtint’s line of pH balanced shampoos and conditioners will gently cleanse and condition helping to prevent premature fading of your hair color.
No, the Color Care line of shampoo and conditioner is an even better formula! Enriched with rockrose flower and lemon water, sunflower seed extract and chia seeds, the Color Care Shampoo is designed to be soothing to the scalp while gently cleansing. The Color Care Conditioner is enriched with sunflower seed extract, lemon fruit water, lavender flower water and rockrose flower water; as well as, shea butter and baobab extract. The conditioner adds softness and shine. Both are designed to prevent premature fading of your hair color.
Yes, the CC Cream Leave-in Conditioner is the same formula as the sachet found in the Naturtint permanent hair color kit. It provides that daily boost to cut down on frizz and encourage softness and shine.
