Naturtint permanent hair color is USDA biobased certified and 92% naturally derived, but like other permanent dyes, contains ingredients that could cause allergic reactions for certain individuals. Please perform a skin sensitivity test 48 hours before coloring to decide if it is right for you.

You can go as dark as you like, but permanent hair color can only lighten by up to two shades. Most people find that staying within two shades of their natural hair color suits their skin tone well. If you are having trouble deciding on a color, a Naturtint color specialist can help.

Naturtint permanent hair color can be applied over most other permanent hair colors except for metallic containing progressive dyes. For best results, wait 2–3 weeks between permanent coloring treatments. Before applying Naturtint, perform a strand test to make sure you like your new color.

For high percentage or stubborn gray, our suggestion to achieve the best coverage is to choose a Natural tone 1N through 8N and leave the solution on for a full 40 minutes. If you prefer Golden, Red, Copper, or Mahogany tones you should mix it with a corresponding Natural tone for the most even and natural looking coverage (i.e. 5M and 5N)

To achieve a natural blend with your existing color, avoid retouching roots with a shade that is darker than your regular Naturtint Permanent Hair Color. One Root Retouch kit is typically only enough to touch up your beginning to show roots and stubborn grays.

Currently there are four colors which match most of the Naturtint shades:

 The Root Retouch Dark Brown is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 2N or 3N permanent colors.
The Root Retouch Light Brown is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 4N, 4G, 5N, 5G or 5.7. 
The Root Retouch Dark Blonde is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 6N, 6G, 6.7, 7N or 7G. 
The Root Retouch Light Blonde is suitable for root application on hair that has been previously colored with Naturtint 8N, 8G, 9N or 10N.
